L’attività di ricerca svolta nel nostro laboratorio ha lo scopo di identificare i meccanismi molecolari e cellulari che sono alla base dello sviluppo degli organi linfoidi secondari. In particolare, siamo interessati a studiare i programmi embrionali che sono responsabili della specificazione e del differenziamento dei progenitori stromali durante l’organogenesi degli organi linfoidi secondari. Inoltre, ci prefiggiamo di capire come le cellule stromali contribuiscono alla formazione e alla funzionalità del microambiente linfoide, ed infine, di comprendere in che modo le cellule stromali coadiuvino la funzione e la sopravvivenza delle cellule linfoidi normali e di quelle leucemie. Parallelamente, avvalendoci delle conoscenze acquisite nell’ambito dello sviluppo degli organi linfoidi, stiamo costruendo un linfonodo artificiale funzionale, che possa essere potenzialmente utilizzato a scopo terapeutico per aumentare la risposta immune anti-tumorale.
