Thymus biology and engineering
The main goal of our group is to study the biology and function of the thymus, and in particular of thymic epithelial cells (TEC), which are crucial in positive and negative selection of developing thymocytes. We are studying these cells both in humans and in mouse models, in health and disease. Indeed, we are interested in studying genetic conditions in which the thymic defect is caused by mutations in TEC genes (eg. APECED, Di George Syndrome, BLS) or is secondary to genetic abnormalities (eg. Down Syndrome). Additionally, we are developing an innovative strategy for thymus regeneration, combining tissue engineering and gene modification.
